Melbourne Here We Come

This will be the only second Christmas away from home for us. The first one was years ago when we spent it in Genting Highlands. We had the worst turkey dinner ever in one of the hotels - the crowd was so big they couldn't cope and our turkey came with white skin and half-frozen meat. Genting, as many of you know, is a huge concrete maze of cheap amusement arcades, casinos and hotels. The air was stuffy and stale. What a pity, because the highlands are really cool and pretty but bad design has made the place like a kinder version of hell. It totally convinced us that Christmas should be spent at home. Our pastor is right. Christmas away from home means a commercial celebration of Christmas without "Christ", especially in Western countries.

Yes, I've been busy getting ready to go to Melbourne this Sunday. We, or rather my hub, had last minute guilt pangs last Sunday and decided to bring Wey, our youngest, so that he wouldn't end up living inside the computer room while we are in Oz. That meant buying a ticket for him at the prevailing high season price so he could be on our flight. Then on Tuesday, Ming was feeling rejected and miserable and we both felt terrible about leaving him at home (he has school till 14 Dec) and so there was a last minute frantic scramble to get him a seat too (he'll fly Royal Brunei Sunday instead while we'll transit for a day and half in Singapore. Haha, I get to shop. I hope.). And then there's all those visas to get and money to change. I just came back from Wisma Merdeka empty-handed. The town is out of Australian $$. Is everybody going there for Christmas too?

mona: HMM..next year u'll get to travel. i can foresee tt :)

daisy: i'd only go in the summer. arkansas sounds like another manitoba! Merry christmas btw! n it was great meeting up with ur uncles (quiet as before) n aunties - they all still look the same, n gosh they all have sons n we had a good laugh planning how to get ur male cousins meet n Mary's daughters.

mike: yes they do! they call bbq 'barbie' here. we've decided to ship a barbie grill home. there's so much food, n Melb reminds me of Toronto bc it also has trams.

jim:we tried tt the last time we were here;was good!this time we going to try Max Brenner :)

ck: oh i wish u were here to take Yi's graduation pics yesterday! i am so frustrated with my very limited photography skills. pics turned out quite blur n we missed d professional photo sessions bc Yi returned her gown.

denise: bc he didn't do well in school plus he said he only wanted to come to Oz to take up the gyoza challenge (see Yi's past post). we r eating too much. we fasted for a month b4 coming here n i got down to 56.5kg but now i'm 57.5!she's NOT sexy, she's FAT n my mission while i'm here is to trim her down.

nee: yes, we made the right decision to bring the whole fam here.

precious: we travelled by tiger airways, which is offering S$199 one way frm sing to melb. but there weren't flights back so we had to take airasia, which was much higher. all-in, we paid about RM3200 return but wey's fare was RM5000 bc we booked so late. ming travelled by royal brunei for MR3500 return. so if u aske me, unless u r very sure n can book early, budget airline fares may not necessarily be cheaper.

womboK: thanks..u have a good holiday too

shan: we r having a great itme but still, home's home n i miss KK!

max: thanks, n u too!

big boys: make sure u post ur turkey. for once i don't need to do Christmas dinner :) good break.

anon: thanks, n u too!

coketai: must make time for ur family; time flies! have a marry Christmas too!
