Lion City!

No lions in Lion City but there are plenty of gigantic rain trees! That's the first thing that strikes me everytime I come to this city. Why is it that Sg can have such big lovely trees shading their highways and roads, making everywhere green and fresh, when we, next to Sg, have mazes of concrete flyovers and bare dusty road dividers?

Why is it that the Sg dollar, once at par with Malaysian Ringgit, is now 2.4 times higher, despite The Little Red Dot, city and country being same size (247 sq km, Wiki) as the city of KL (243 sq km, Wiki) and having no natural resources? Why is it that EVERY street and corner is clean and devoid of thrash yet in Malaysia you can't step into a coffee shop without used tissues sticking to your shoes and chairs? Why is it that buses are new and clean, run on time, plentiful and fares are cheap? Why are Sg taxi drivers rated the BEST in the world while KL taxi drivers are notorious for not using their meters and picky when sending passengers, discriminating about locations and even the weather?

Why is Sg rated the best place to live (albeit now rated the 6th costliest) in South East Asia (or the whole Asian region)? Why are the literacy rates, education and living standards of
Sgreans among the highest in the world?

But looking from another angle, many Malaysians are like dandelion on the hills, thriving despite the harsh conditions :)

WE tend to say the grass is always greener the other side. Surprise, surprise I have Singaporean friends whom are not happy with their govt and their system too. How can that be, we may asked? I think every nation has it's flaw and plus point.

I agree with another commenter that the grass in always greener on the other side.

I am a Singaporean by birth and a 3rd generation Singaporean & still living on this red dot in my 4th decade.

I like Malaysia a lot, the hawker & kopitiam food is superbly good prepared with TLC which we no longer have here in Singapore sadly.

There is more expression of freedom of rights in Malaysia, your lawyers dare to demonstrate & so do other interest groups without their careers being derailed by the dominant political party. Over here in SG, if you try to do that, you can kiss goodbye to your career for good & also your family will no longer be able to earn a decent living too.

Your country, Malaysia has beautiful pristine beaches with such a wide range of blue spectrum seas.

Be thankful your country, Malaysia has abundant natural resources ranging from petroleum to oil palm to timber etc... which both indigenious & minority population can be entrepreneurs in investing in these commodities.

Just a few things I can think of to be thankful if I were a Malaysian citizen of ethnic Chinese origin. Yes, I am aware that bumiputras are accorded with certain privileges but that has not stopped the other minorities from setting up successful businesses whether SMEs or MNCs.

In fact, the entrepreneurial spirit is so much alive & well in Malaysia held by minority race interests and when compared to Singapore the entrepreneurial spirit is absymal at best as the political rulers prefer to have it concentrated in their government held corporations.

I'd rather not say it because I'm sure it'll open a can of worms. Have tons of fun at the awards. Don't forget to take plenty of photos and document everything!
