The Best Restaurants List

I would like to request KL food bloggers to consider doing a list of the top 5 or 10 restaurants they ate in in 2008. Joe? Ivy? Meena? WMW? Kaijai?

When we visit KL, there's just too much action for small town folks like us. We don't even need a list here because there's so few restaurants to choose from, but KL abounds with good restaurants! Where's best for cha sao, for hokkien mee, for chicken rice, or for good old whatever? Remember a guy called Blackwell who used to release an acerbic round up of the best and worst dressed celebrities? Do one for food, and it would be great reading plus information especially for those of us who aren't familiar with KL! KL has the best food in 'Nanyang', you lucky KLites!(Penang is great, but only for a few local dishes and Singapore is mediocre except for chicken rice and fine dining, especially western cuisine.)

Come on, just do it!

  6. What about Singapore's fish head curry? All I see on travel shows is this infamous curry? Us Westerners (or perhaps just me) would like to know what are the top dishes to try, in addition to the top restos. Please.

  8. joe: tt'll be great! i'm looking out 4 tt ok.

ekeng: u have resigned finally? good i'll catch up with u soon.

johanna: hi! no offense but ipoh's like penang, great for only a very limited no of dishes n u can't eat d same thing everyday. n i don't understand d hoohaa over rice balls. then again my last trip tp ipoh was like 8 years ago...

icook4fun: yes, many of us would use these lists like lonely planet guidebooks.

chopsuey: i think chili crab is more famous than fish head curry in singpore? generally, what we have in malasia, the singaporeans have too but w/o being biased, the same food in singapore somehow is diff n not as tasty!

  9. no offence taken.. it's not famous for many many things but there are many diff foods that i love in ipoh.. every time i'm back, i have like a hit list, gotta try to visit them all every round.. and i can never finish cos there's not enough meals to accomodate.. btw, i've never heard of rice balls being popular in ipoh.. where is that?

  12. hi,

been a silent reader of your blog. Really like your writing =)

    In my humble opinion,

Best wan tan mee is located at Hock Lim Restaurant, PJ State (PJ new town)

Best chili pan mee is at Kin Kin Restaurant located off Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman (Jalan TAR, KL)

Best char siew is at Meng Kee Restaurant at Jalan Tengkat Tong Shin (near Jalan Alor)

hm...cant think of anything else. KL offers lots of good food. I have a couple of other places in mind but im not sure if they are the best KL can offer =0

  13. Oh dear....pressure pressure. I will try my best to finish the assignment before CNY. Hehe. When exactly are you coming? I will be flying off to HK on 6 Feb..and yesss...am going for the lard rice in tai wing wah!!!

Btw, the rice balls are Melaka specialty, not ipoh. I don't like rice balls too..so lumpy and soft.

  14. any place to recommend for good food and beer?

  15. johanna: em, t thot they have tt too in ipoh. i've been told rice balls only available in melaka.

zurin: most food bloggers r already fat w/o my help lol!

lemongrass: must do ah, no procrastination! we the east msians depend on u!

anon: MANY THANX!u not only gave the names but the locations, so nice of u! how about the best hokkien mee, u know tt fat wheat noodles with black soy sauce n pork cracking bits?? kk's hokkien mee sucks.

pp: but make sure u make a reservatn! oh, so looking 4ward to waht u'll be eating in tai wing wah. if u can, go to the original one at yuen long n take a pic with toto. don't miss their fine noodles too, n the malaigo !! OHHHH!

i was in melaka years ago n i didn't like tt they used their hands (even tho gloved) to roll the rice. i guess i'm too fussy.

in kl u mean? guys, girls? would tt still be bangsar or am i showing my age?

  21. In my humble opinion, the best hokkien mee in KL would be at Ah Wa Restaurant, Jalan 222. It's a pretty good 'Tai Chou' place. It's slightly off Federal Highway.

I found pictures of the food in that place on a random blog:
