It was our second morning in SF and we had the whole morning and afternoon before Hub arrived in SF so CY took Yi and I shopping in suburban Walnut Creek. The Walnut Creek shopping area of malls and shops is neat, clean and upscale, with some parts reminding Yi and I of Santa Barbara. Flower pots were filled with pretty blooms and the weather was perfect, sunny and in the high 60s. I found See's Candies, my favorite SF confectionary. I bought a couple of boxes of my fave Toffee-ettes (I know, they are so sweet but so good!) and then sampled their chocs and peanut brittle. Now I think I love their peanut brittle more than the toffees. I've only seen See's Candies in Hong Kong but the Toffee-ettes which cost USD16.90 per lb cost about HK300/USD50 if I'm not wrong!
Lunch was at Cheesecake Factory, just because on our last visit to LA we had a good meal there. I was a little hesitant about eating in chain restaurants but the Cheesecake Factory in Walnut Creek is really okay. The ambiance was nice, the waiter was friendly and the food was good. All three of us were watching our waistlines so we ordered to share.
A healthy veggie pasta dish. Surprisingly good but just a little bit greasy for me.
I thought these crab cakes wouldn't be good but they were the best I ate on the US trip, full of fresh crabmeat and tasty too.
Red velvet cake is so American--you see it everywhere. We just wanted one cake, and red velvet it was. I thought it would taste commercial but it was very good.
I like how American cake slices are so big and tall, satisfying to the eyes and stomach.
